#albumbluesrock #11/2026 Today, the third decade of our century is represented exclusively by fresh releases from 2026. We'll also explore both the first and second decades of the 21st century.

Gallows Circus - Jumping At Shadows (2026) Gallows Circus play dirty, uncompromising blues rock, inspired by bands like Led Zeppelin, Black Stone Cherry, Free, Reef, Thin Lizzy, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, and Guns N' Roses. They create original songs that make you nod your head and lift your chin! This is achieved through memorable riffs and vocal melodies, backed by a powerful rhythm section that, taken together, will have you humming these songs for weeks after listening. Having begun touring in August 2017, Gallows Circus have been working on their debut EP since then, which was released in late 2017 to rave reviews and critical acclaim. Despite being relatively new, the band is continually expanding its repertoire with original compositions and captivating audiences with their vibrant, energetic, and memorable live performances.

Ron D Bowes - Ooh La La (2026) The legendary Ron D Bowes' new album, "Ooh La La," has been released. It includes the critically acclaimed songs "You Have Got To Pay (Ooh La La)," "Shotgun Wedding," "Horror Train," and "Coffin Nail." Ron about himself: - “In the 70s I played in many semi-professional bands, played bass for David Jackson (Van Der Graaf Generator) on some of his demos. I worked with Trevor Thornton - drummer (Saxon, Asia), Ray Brooks - multi-instrumentalist and songwriter (Rory Gallagher Band), Katie Short - singer-songwriter (Kathy & the Short-List), Fred White - drummer, Carol Sue - singer-songwriter and guitarist, Ern and The TrueVulgarian - singers and songwriters, Paul Rainbird (colleague in early bands) and Ricky Moore (songwriter and guitarist). I performed at the free festival in Windsor on the same stage with Hawkwind and met the late great Lemmy. In the 80s he played in a band called "Shoot the Butler", which released an indie album, Recorded at Abbey Road. After a break, I started performing live again, then went into the studio to record the cassette album "Final Curtain" for Flix. I spent ten years away from home. Now I'm writing and producing my own songs again. It helps avoid conflicts within the band."

Eliza Neals - Thunder In The House (2026) Eliza Neals is currently very busy, creating a real explosion with her new release, Thunder In The House. Originally from Detroit, Michigan, she was surrounded by a rich musical heritage from childhood. She was encouraged to take piano lessons and sang with her sisters early on in her musical journey. She also graduated from Wayne State University in Detroit with a Bachelor of Arts degree. Neals toured Europe with the university's choral group but eventually returned to Detroit, where blues music soon knocked on her door. There, she began singing in popular clubs, honing her skills as a pianist and singer. A chance meeting with Motown great Barrett Strong sparked a friendship that led to Nils's career in blues, soul, and R&B. Since then, she hasn't looked back, releasing thirteen studio albums and receiving numerous nominations and awards. Thunder In The House is a record listeners will likely enjoy listening to again and again. Mick Jagger reportedly described Nils as "a voice I won't soon forget." She has amassed an impressive list of musical collaborations, working with artists such as Joe Louis Walker, King Solomon Hicks, Peter Keys, Derek St. Holmes, Popa Chubby, Tony Joe White, Mike Zito, Tommy Castro, Albert Castiglia, and Walter Trout.

The song "Speedy Beady" opens the album with a lighthearted song about a red rooster who "wakes me up at the crack of dawn." Nils also sings about old Speedy Beady sleeping with chickens without even knowing their names. This song features a sweet guitar part, complementing the gripping story of this lecherous rooster. The video for "Speedy Beady" can be found on YouTube. "Love Will" also features a powerful guitar part and is available on YouTube. Nils sings, "So many people are losing their faith. We need love to brighten their day." I especially love the ending, where she repeats, "love will brighten their day." Love is something that costs so little but means so much. We could all do better sharing it these days. In "Wicked Heart," Eliza Nils delivers a powerful vocal performance: "Wicked heart, tearing me apart; devil is your middle name." This song also features a fiery guitar part, adding to the intensity. Highly recommended. Don't miss this record!

Selwyn Birchwood - Electric Swamp Funkin' Blues (2026) In our site's opinion, one of the most difficult aspects for a blues or blues-rock artist is to remain true to themselves from year to year, from Album after album, avoiding repetition for the sake of success and instead forging a musical path without sounding monotonous or repetitive. Selwyn Birchwood, a guitar prodigy and singer/songwriter from Florida, takes huge strides forward with each new album, establishing himself as one of the most talented and versatile blues, funk, Southern soul, and blues-rock artists of this generation. Birchwood's creative career has been steadily evolving since his earliest days in the music business; in his early teens, Selwyn Birchwood was heavily influenced by blues-rock icons like Jimi Hendrix, and then, a few years later, by living blues legends like Buddy Guy. His story took a decisive turn when, at age 19, the guitarist and singer/songwriter met legendary slide guitar virtuoso and blues singer Sonny Rhodes, who immediately recognized Birchwood's skill and the early signs of a talent destined to develop rapidly. So quickly, in fact, that after a month of working together in 2004, Rhodes decided to take Selwyn Birchwood on a full-time tour of the United States.

If music could paint portraits, then an album like Electric Swamp Funkin' Blues would undoubtedly perfectly capture the captivating musical journey Selwyn is currently undertaking. On this album, the American artist convincingly, thanks to incredible guitar work and equally stunning vocals, effortlessly blends funk, blues, soul, blues-rock, and even folk, while showcasing his talent as a lyricist, especially on songs like Labor Of Love, Damaged Goods, and All Hail The Algorithm, among many others. Across the 10 brand-new compositions written by Birchwood for his new album, the most captivating aspect of Electric Swamp Funkin' Blues is that each song on the album always reveals a new perspective on the American singer-songwriter's multifaceted creativity; From the album's title track, which lives up to its name with its incredible sonic power, to the hypnotic slow blues-rock of "Damaged Goods," or the captivating blend of blues, funk and soul in "All Hail The Algorithm," to the deeply personal folk-soul expression of openness and honesty in the closing track "The Struggle Is Real," Birchwood captivates the listener at every turn with his commanding presence, which emanates from his thunderous, deep and emotionally charged guitar playing and his skill as a very soulful singer, and is also perfectly supported by the presence of highly skilled musicians working with him on the new album, such as Reggie Oliver (baritone, tenor, alto and bass saxophones, flutes), Donald "Huff" Wright (bass guitar), Henley Connor III (drums, percussion), John Hetherington (Hammond B3 organ, keyboards, piano), Eli Bishop (violin, viola, cello), and, last but not least, backing vocals by Briana Lutzi and Taylor Opie.

Electric Swamp Funkin' Blues is an album of incredible brilliance, both sonically and lyrically, crafted by an artist with a clear vision of where he wants to take his music (and his many fans), armed with a deep confidence in his craft—a confidence fully justified by the phenomenal amount of work invested in the creation of this self-produced album, where Selwyn Birchwood demonstrates all the class and talent of one of the finest, most inspired musicians.

Frank Hannon - Guitarz From Marz (2005. A Tesla-influenced hard and blues-rock solo album, described as "guitar rock" with a "space blues" influence. Overall, it features energetic, guitar-driven, and "mainstream" hard rock tracks. While some listeners find it relatively mellow, with more ballads, or less impressive, it is generally highly regarded for its musicianship. Guitarz From Marz, according to Hannon himself, is a mix of "the Allman Brothers, Robin Trower, or Pat Travers," featuring "electric warriors" in a "blues-rock" style. The album showcases "famous classic rock songs" while paying tribute to them. The album serves as a way for Hannon to showcase his versatility as a musician and, as some have noted, is a "good and quiet... very good" album where "Frankie Hannon" is at his best.

Blues Bureau - Boogie Rebellion (2016) Blues Bureau's 14-track album, Boogie Rebellion, aims to challenge the notion that all blues bands sound the same. Featuring three cover songs and the standout instrumental "Stratosized," featuring guitarist Rolf Borchert, the album aims to combat the stereotype that blues bands are predictable. The album aims to be a strong contender in the blues scene, with guitarist Rolf Borchert (known for his work with Mad Butcher and Red House) playfully attempting to challenge that notion. To outstanding blues artists like Joe Bonamassa, this release offers a fresh perspective on blues, focusing on virtuoso instrumental performance and a rebellious energy that defies traditional constraints.

By calling themselves BLUES BUREAU, they risk associations with administration and bureaucracy- practically the opposite of what blues fans associate with their music. However, with this Essen-based quintet, such fears are completely unfounded: BLUES BUREAU live and breathe their music, cultivating and performing it with unparalleled mastery. This is already evident in the opening chords of their third album, "Boogie Rebellion." Fluctuating strings introduce the riff-driven "Cold Desert Sunrise," where vocals and slide guitar perform a duet, immediately inviting the listener to nod along. At the same time, one suspects that the somewhat overly vocal and rather undynamic vocals may not match the band's instrumental capabilities...

Among the original compositions, the strongest are the title track and "Stratosized." The latter is a wonderful instrumental delight, while "Boogie Rebellion," again featuring Ms. Noel, rises like a phoenix from the ashes, transforming into a memorable hit... and eventually fading away again, though not completely. "Boogie Rebellion" doesn't quite live up to these expectations; the Essen band's third album, while musically very high-quality, ultimately becomes somewhat tedious due to its length. With fourteen tracks, one would have appreciated more variety and drive, as well as a significantly more dynamic lead vocal.

Danielia Cotton - Rare Child (2008) This Black woman from the self-described "small white town" of Hopewell, New Jersey, has created an album that effortlessly evokes Southern rock. New York Times music critic Jon Pareles recently said that her "loud, guitar-heavy Southern rock connects her to Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Black Crowes, Janis Joplin, Aerosmith, and the rockier side of Bonnie Raitt." What's especially great about this retro vibe is that it's not a gimmick: she's at home in this music and sings with undeniable authenticity.

It's clear she can belt out powerful vocals. But she restrains herself as much as she lets her emotions run wild, so the effect is that she never overdoes the big, thunderous, song-killing, overwrought melismas so common among most modern commercial R&B singers. Her skill also ensures that her songs never overshadow her own. As proof that she thinks completely differently, listen to "Make U Move," where she raps, "I don't need no sassy moves to win you over." After all, if you have a great voice, learned to play an instrument, can write a strong song, and can lead a band, why would you need to shake your ass?

Speaking of songs, this album has a lot of great tracks. Among them: "Bang My Drum," "Rare Child," "Let it Ride," and the aforementioned "Make U Move." Turn it up loud and enjoy.
